The Capitol Pops Concert Band will kick off its 17th season with a free, open to the public concert at 7 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2013.

The performance is entitled “One More For The Road” as Jerry Lopes enters his final season as the CPCB’s full-time director, a position he has held since the band was formed in 1997. Lopes’ 50-year career includes decades as a music educator, international performer and memberships in the region’s top symphony/orchestra organizations. He continues to play tuba and bass with Dr. Bach and the Jazz Practitioners.

The CPCB’s concert at the auto museum will include some of its traditional favorites and specially selected automotive-themed arrangements, including “In My Merry Oldsmobile,” “Route 66” and NASCAR’s “Thunder” theme.
